Othercide is a grim-dark fantasy game with easy-to-learn rogue-lite gameplay that makes it better for people who are new to strategy games.
There are a lot of different kinds of strategy games on the market, but many of them are hard to get into, especially indie games.
But some strategy games either go out of their way to be easy for beginners to learn or are just simple and easy to get into. I chose a lot of different strategy games for this list. Because there are so many different kinds of strategy games. All of these games are easy for beginners in some way.

This game is set in a sad and dark magical world. And the story and art style are mostly black and white. Otherside’s rogue-lite features make its otherwise harsh gameplay a lot easier for new players to pick up. This style might not be for everyone, though.
In Othercide, players control a small group of units that fight different, horrible monsters. They have to manage their actions on a changing schedule. Which is the only part that might be hard for new players at first. It can be hard to play because players have to kill their own units to heal others. However, the game’s clear and simple interface and meta-progression system. Which lets players start new runs with an edge, more than make up for it.
The Banner Saga

This beautifully drawn game has both story-driven gameplay and tactical turn-based battles that can sometimes feel like puzzles. The game gives the player a lot of options and consequences. The fighting can be harsh, but the rules are simple to understand.
The Banner Saga‘s carefully crafted setting and story, along with how the player interacts with it. Raise the stakes of combat by giving the player a strong sense of context and motivation. This makes the combat more exciting and fun to play through, even when things go wrong.Lulubox Pro is a versatile app that allows gamers to unlock hidden features, enhance graphics, and customize their gaming experience
For The King

With its fighting based on rolling dice and world travel, this strategy RPG is a lot like board games. For The King takes these board elements and adds rogue-like elements to make a one-of-a-kind, easy-to-understand RPG that can be played alone or with other people.
To finish tasks, get loot, and level up in For The King, players move around on randomly created maps and fight in different boss fights. The game’s controls are pretty easy for beginners to understand. But there is a lot of randomness in the gameplay that may bother some players.
Wildermyth
![Image showing the game title Wildermyth with assorted heroes in the background](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/wildermyth-title-image.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=1500&dpr=1.5)
Wildermyth is mostly a story-driven party-based RPG that uses player choice and procedurally generated stories to be different. It also has a very easy-to-use, beginner-friendly combat system with multiple difficulty settings that let players plan without having to deal with too many systems and small details.
Wildermyth’s combat is turn-based and precise, with the focus on using all four playable characters together. To win, players will need to carefully place their characters, use striking and walling techniques, and get the most out of their combat skills. In Wildermyth, characters can die permanently, but there is a system that lets them “fall back” and get hurt forever instead, or the attacker can let them die and do a lot of damage to them.
Northgard
![A small river-side town in Northgard](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/northgard.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=1500&dpr=1.5)
This more standard strategy game is based on games like Civilization and Warcraft 3. It combines strategy, resource management, and area control in a way that is both unique and easy to understand. The Viking theme and simple but effective graphics make the game look great.
In Northgard, players are in charge of a group of Vikings and can give them different jobs and find new lands to take over. The game has a lot more area and resource management than the others on this list. But it’s pretty easy for beginners to pick up because it doesn’t require a lot of micromanagement.
Into The Breach

This game, made by the same people who made FTL, is a turn-based strategy game with puzzles and a focus on strategy. People who play Into The Breach are the only ones who can see everything the game has to offer. This includes what enemies will do on their turn and in what order. When you add in the fact that there are other goals you can work toward besides just killing enemies, the tasks become complex problems.
Into The Breach is good for beginners because it has easy-to-learn but hard-to-master features, a rogue-lite structure that lets players jump in and out, and “undo” and “reset turn” mechanics that let players try out different methods every task.
Tooth And Tail
![Tooth And Tail gameplay](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/collage-maker-28-aug-2023-12-45-pm-5912.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=1500&dpr=1.5)
Tooth and Tail is a real-time strategy game with a campaign you can play by yourself or with other people. Survivor IO is about two groups of anthropomorphized animals that are at war with each other. The matches are short and fast-paced, which makes the game easy to learn and play. Even for people who have never played a strategy game before.
Tooth and Tail is a strategy RTS game that is both simple and easy to play. It does this by keeping the economy management and base-building parts of RTS games while getting rid of most of the micromanagement. Instead, players can control their leader and lead their troops around the battlefield, making big strategic decisions that lead to big, chaotic battles instead of getting bogged down in the details.
Thronefall
![Thronefall desert level](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/collage-maker-28-aug-2023-12-28-pm-9600.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=1500&dpr=1.5)
At the time this was written, Thronefall was still in Steam Early Access. But it is already a very well finished game with a lot of content. Thronefall takes the gameplay of a traditional RTS and mixes it with tower defense games to make an experience that’s approachable and easy to learn. It’s probably the best way to start playing strategic video games.
People who play Thronefall build a base with weapons, business buildings, and buildings that spawn units to protect themselves from different waves of enemies. Each person controls a character that has a special move and a skill that can only be used by that character. Thronefall doesn’t give players a lot of micromanagement tasks. Instead, it lets them put units in strategic spots. A lot of the strategy in Thronefall comes from managing the budget, getting ready, and placing units in the right place. This makes for an easy but deep experience. The game also has different levels of challenge for people who want to make things a little tougher.
