There is nothing quite like the slow, scary crawl of a heavy tank in War Thunder. It has metal grinding, a roaring, smoke-spewing engine, and wheels that keep turning. Tanks that are called “heavy” are, well, pretty heavy, you can tell by their name. Some cars are so heavy that they can hold a house.
Now that you think about it, it’s not a big surprise that a tank with a big gun, thick armor, and a body full of ammo gets heavy over time. Here are the largest tanks in War Thunder, though, in case you’ve ever been curious about how heavy these bugs can get.
AMX-50 Surblindé: A Proud French Tank
The Surblindé is a rank five heavy tank from the AMX-50 line of French tanks. Its armor is between 5 and 300 millimeters thick. With its 120-millimeter main gun and up to 50 shells that weigh between 22.84 and 23.1 kilograms each, this tank is very heavy.
But don’t be fooled by its weight; the Surblindé can hit a top speed of 55 kilometers per hour thanks to its 1,908 horsepower engine. Of course, the type of terrain changes the tank’s top speed and pace, but it’s still an amazing piece of gear.
2C Bis: A Creative Prototype
The 2C Bis is a rank one premium French heavy tank with armor layers ranging from 22 to 45 millimeters. It is an interesting change to the FCM 2C. If you’re confused about how a tank with so little protection could be called a heavy tank, look at the main gun, which is a 155-millimeter howitzer.
The 2C Bis can hold up to 24 shells, each of which weighs an amazing 43.2 kilograms. With its huge main gun and ammo, the 2C Bis can hold up to 70 tons. Only 16 kilometers per hour is the fastest speed this tank can reach. It’s about as easy to move as a brick.
2C: Old School, But No Less Heavy
The Char FCM 2C is a rank two French heavy tank that came before the 2C Bis. Its armor is between 22 and 45 millimeters thick. This tank’s main weapon, a 75-millimeter gun, isn’t very impressive, but its huge 12-person crew more than makes up for it.
Additionally, the 2C can hold up to 128 shells, each of which can weigh anywhere from 5.3 to 7.2 kilograms. It’s not clear how this old tank weighs 70 tons all together. The 2C is very slow because its engine is only 954 horsepower, which isn’t very powerful.
Tiger II (H) Sla.16: Make Way For Germany
Move out of the way for the German tanks, because things are about to get heavy. The Pz.Kpfw. VI Ausf. B (H) mit Simmering Sla.16 is a variant of the Tiger II and has armor that is between 80 and 185 millimeters thick, which is pretty good.
With a good 88-millimeter gun and a rack that can hold up to 70 shells weighing between 7.3 and 10.16 kilograms each, this tank can hold up to 70 tons. Could this be the best weight for most big tanks? Also, this tank can go as fast as 45 kilometers per hour thanks to its 1,431 horsepower engine.
Tiger II (10.5 cm Kw.K): The Calm Before The Storm
Are you ready to see a number that’s more than 70 tons? The Pz.Kpfw. VI Ausf. B mit 10.5cm KwK L/68 is a different type of Tiger II tank. It is a rank five heavy tank with armor that is 80 to 185 millimeters thick. That big 105-millimeter gun and the rack that holds up to 54 shells that weigh between 10.3 and 15.6 kilograms make it very powerful.
This tank can hold up to 72.3 tons when everything is added up. That’s how fast this tank can go: 45 kilometers per hour at its fastest and 12 kilometers per hour going backwards. Its engine has 1,717 horsepower.
E-100: A Fierce Runner-Up
The powerful Pz.Kpfw. E-100 is a rank five heavy tank with armor that is between 120 and 232 millimeters thick, which is very good. One of its guns is a 128-millimeter gun that can hold up to 42 shells that weigh between 9.85 and 26.35 kilograms each.
The amazing thickness of its armor, along with its huge gun and shells in Snake Game, give the E-100 a total weight of 140.5 tons. Even though it has a 1,717-horsepower engine, this tank can only go 32 kilometers per hour at its fastest.
Maus: A Gargantuan German Machine
The Pz.Kpfw. VIII Maus is the enemy heavy tank at the end of War Thunder. It is a famous rank five heavy tank with armor that is 50 to 300 millimeters thick. It comes with a 128 mm gun and a rack that can hold up to 68 shells that weigh between 9.85 and 28.3 kilograms each.
It’s hard to believe that the Maus can only go 22 kilometers per hour, even though it has a huge 2,290 horsepower engine. This is because the tank weighs so much. There’s really no way this tank could have gone faster than 10 kilometers per hour.
