How to Change Netgear Router Default Password?

Turn On Your Netgear Router
The first step towards changing the router’s default password is to turn it on.
- Plug the router in to a working power socket
- Make sure that the power socket you have used for plugging the device in is well-working
Connect Your Router and Internet Modem
The next step is to connect your router and the internet modem. Making use of a well-maintained Ethernet cable, the process of connecting the devices can be executed. Just insert its one end into your router and other end into your internet modem.
There are a couple of things more that you have to consider while making a router-modem connection:
- The connection between the two must be finger-tight
- The ports of your devices must be clear
Now, Connect Your Client Device and Router
To change the router’s default password with ease, it is important to connect your client device and your Netgear router. You can use an Ethernet cable for connecting them or you can also make use of wireless source instead.
For Ethernet source, take an Ethernet cable and use it for connecting the devices. The one end must be entered into the Ethernet/ internet port of your router and other end in any of the Ethernet ports of your client device.
For wireless source, open your client device and click on the WiFi icon. After clicking on the same, a list of active wireless networks will be displayed. What’s next? From the list, search for your router’s default SSID, and once found, connect with it using the WiFi password.
What is the client device? The client here we are referring to the device you are using for changing the router’s default password, computer or laptop.
Open an Internet Browser
Now, you need to pull up an internet browser. Ensure that the browser’s version you are using is neither outdated nor unclean.
Unclean? What is that suppose to mean?
It means, you have to clear junk files and browsing history from the browser before putting it in use. Why? Because, you will get stuck with browsing-related issues that may not allow you change the Netgear router default password.
Log in to the Netgear Router
Take your mouse cursor to the browser’s address bar and then enter routerlogin.net without hitting committing errors. Once you are done, hit the Enter key.
Soon after hitting the Enter key, you will find yourself on the Netgear router login window. Over there, you will see two boxes:
USERNAME
PASSWORD
Enter admin as the username and password as the password. Make sure to turn off the CAPS LOCK on your keyboard and also, prevent using the shift key. Why? Because the router’s admin credentials are case-sensitive.

Once you have landed on the Basic Home Screen or the Dashboard of your Netgear router, you need to access the Advanced settings. Once you have access it, select Administration > Set password.
Now, you need to enter the router’s existing password and enter the new password. You are supposed to enter the new password twice. Once you are done, click on Apply to make changes effective.
As soon as you are done with changing the router’s default password, exit from the router login page and try accessing routerlogin.net setup page using the customized password.
