When it first started in November 2002, ISTQB Certification achieved remarkable goals. The world’s most popular scheme to certify software testers, conducting tests in over 120 countries worldwide, and more!
What Is an ISTQB Foundation Level Certification?
ISTQB Certification is the foundational certification syllabus expected to become one of the most read software testing guides ever, is widely adopted as an industry standard among software testing professionals. It contains glossaries and syllabi contents.
Foundational-level certifications are ideal for anyone involved or interested in software testing.
This certificate is highly esteemed among Test Engineers worldwide and is often used as a requirement for tester vacancies. Holding this certification makes finding work and further developing your career easier, as it increases your chances of taking part in projects requiring certified testers.
Now that we understand what ISTQB exam rules entail and why we must take them, let’s dive deeper and learn everything we need about the foundation exam.
The test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions with correct responses worth one point each; to pass, a score of 65 percent (26 points) must be achieved; testing will last 60 minutes.
Questions are divided by chapter and cognitive level, with eight questions per K-level for the Foundation exam. Questions at K1 are split among 20 questions from this level; K2 offers 12, while K3 and K4 each feature 8.
How long will preparation for ISTQB take?
Pass the Test and Get Certified It should be easy to pass the ISTQB test and obtain your certificate, right? Some might claim preparation time should take only two days while your colleagues might testify that I spent only about a week studying before passing or no preparation was required at all – yet according to my experience with the ISTQB test, this ‘isn’t too hard’ attitude is just a myth; most candidates cannot possibly study within this amount of time for such an important exam!
Two weeks weren’t enough
Since last November, this organization has issued more than 920,000 certificates. Of those applicants who tested successfully, only 2/3 passed. Taking and passing the exam cost approximately $600 and 4580 each time.
I took and passed the ISTQB-CTFL exam with 92.5 percent. So here I share my personal experiences regarding its difficulty and effective methods of addressing different types of questions. In doing this, you can understand just how challenging taking this test is.
Complex issues often require complex answers
ISTQB complicates what should be simple tasks, leading to incorrect answers appearing as right choices, so you need to identify and find pairs of the correct answers that match up correctly.
Example of an ISTQB question that requires fast answers to provide one in 60-90 seconds, fluency in theory must be combined with the ability to think logically.
Questions that focus on understanding specific terms
Understanding over 200 terms is necessary. Check out this article, where we present over 100 types of Software Testing together; most terms overlap in meaning with one another like bugs. One goal of our research is identifying bugs. These occur when actual results don’t match desired expectations. Working with ISTQB adds another level of complexity; six terms share similar meanings but with slight distinctions, which is essential to remain aware of.
Subjective Questions
It is crucial to understand the mindset of those who designed tests. Not only the correct but also the most likely answers must be provided. Therefore, subjective test questions offer more precise test answers. These types of questions include typically principal, best most likely, or typically principal best most likely. When any of these words appear, it indicates four correct answers, with one being the most accurate answer (25 percent of questions have this wording). To answer such queries successfully, you must have experience in theoretical concepts. Study multiple chapters from this book, and then practice answering many different types of questions yourself!
Have You Forgotten What Should Be Done When Reading?
Also, lengthy questions can leave you flustered, and sometimes. You need to remember what question they were supposed to answer. So that you only have 60-90 seconds per question to do your work – this makes the task more challenging than you think!
